                               Clay Age     

God shaped Adam from clay in his own image. What a ubiquitous and easily available material was chosen… And praise be to God… The Creator shaped man from earth and sent him to live on the Earth, and said to him:”For dust thou art, and into dust thou return”.  And added a whispered consolation: “Short though is life, immortal is the art”.
God created man and thereby set an example. The whole history of mankind – as archeologists know – is told by clay shards. Every shard is a testament and a message: immediate and direct, from hand to hand. In every land and every time, wherever and whenever a changing man strolled, - he always found clay and carried out the Forefather’s will by shaping it. And already in Africa and Japan, in America and Scandinavia a first clay pitcher keeps fresh water and in a first clay pot a hot soup is boiling. And the first letter is written on clay. And finally, the God himself is created from clay by man in his own image. Thus we people returned our debt to the Creator…
Natalya Korchemkina and Inna Rogova are excellent artists who know perfectly well the main quality of clay – its inexhaustibility. Their art is a match to the material, Their works are full of fantasy, thoughts and fine taste. They are free and wise, simple and subtle, joyful and tragic… Human. They embody life, as present as a fingerprint on fresh clay. And as eternal as the same fingerprint subjected to firing and stuck in ages.
Human history is the Clay Age. Yes, there was the Stone Age and the Bronze Age when weapons glittered, and the Iron Age and the smoke-spewing Age of Machines, and the frightening Atomic Age… Rapidly coming is the cold Age of virtual worlds, information technology, and total surveillance… However as long as the Clay Age lasts, the humankind will be alive. And every one of us is alive and every one is human.
